Are you a young activist aged 15–29 and ready to fight climate change, uplift Indigenous peoples’ rights and connect with fellow young changemakers from across Sápmi, Finland, Åland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark?
If the answer is yes, then the Nordic Green Youth Summer Summit 2025 is for you!
Nordic Green Youth Summer Summit 2025 consists of a four-day summer event in the Åland Islands from 3rd to 6th of July and a short pre-Summit meeting online on 5th of June.
The aim of the Summit is to learn how to make the green transition also a just transition. During the event you’ll hear about the challenges related to the green transition and the rights of indigenous peoples. You’ll learn about the subject through expert speakers’ lectures, especially from the perspective of Sámi rights. The goal of the Summit is to make a joint statement about the issue and share the message across the Nordics.
The programme includes Sámi expert speakers’ lectures, workshops and discussions as well as time for informal chats and hanging out with young activists from other countries! You get to share the Summit experience with youth from around the Nordics!
Programme
Pre-Summit online meeting on the 5th of June 2025, 17.00–18.30 (Denmark, Sweden, Norway time) / 18.00–19.30 (Finland time)
- During the pre-Summit meeting we will get to know each other, go through Summit info together and talk about our ideas and expectations for the Summit.
Summer Summit 3rd to 6th of July 2025 in the Åland Islands (+ travel time to and from Mariehamn)
- Four days of programme includes inspirational workshops on changemaking, creating a joint statement and of course space for informal conversations and having fun with like-minded youth from other countries.
- Participants will deepen their knowledge on current political issues, learn skills and methods needed in changemaking, get to exchange ideas with peers and make lots of new friends!
Who can apply?
Anyone who is interested in politics/activism, aged between 15–29 and lives in Sápmi, Åland, Finland, Norway, Sweden or Denmark! We especially welcome applicants who already have some experience in political activism or participation in political youth organisations. However, prior experience or membership of the Young Greens or the Green party is not required. Most important is your motivation to learn, take part in discussions and contribute to collective action. Also the commitment to attending both the Summit and the pre-Summit online meeting is required. We very warmly encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for the Summit!
What language is used at the Summit?
The language of the Summit is English, so all participants should have a working knowledge of English and be able to actively participate in workshops using English. However, this is also an opportunity to learn and practice, and group leaders and other participants will help with translations into Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian or Danish when needed.
Where is the Summit and how do we get there?
The Summit takes place in the beautiful Åland Islands, where the groups from different countries will travel together from a common starting point (Turku/Stockholm/Oslo/Copenhagen) with a group leader. The travel bookings from the starting point to Åland will be done by the Summit organizers. Participants will be traveling to the starting point independently.
Participants from Finland will travel alone to Turku on 2 or 3 July, where they will meet their group leader. The Finnish group will stay a night in Turku (except those who live in Turku or arrive in Turku in the morning) and then take the morning ferry to Mariehamn on 3 July. After the Summit, the Finnish group will travel together to Turku. The ferry arrives at Turku harbour around 8 P.M. on 6 July. The participants will travel home from Turku by themselves.
Participants from Sweden will travel alone to Stockholm on 2 or 3 July, where they will meet their group leader. The Swedish group will stay a night in Stockholm (except those who live in or close to Stockholm or arrive in Stockholm in the morning) and then take the morning ferry to Mariehamn on 3 July. After the Summit, the Swedish group will travel together back to Stockholm. The ferry arrives at Stockholm harbour around 7 P.M. on 6 July. The participants will travel home from Stockholm by themselves.
Participants from Norway will travel alone to Oslo on 2 July, where they will meet their group leader and travel to Stockholm. The group will stay a night in Stockholm and take the morning ferry to Mariehamn on 3 July. After the Summit, the Norwegian group will travel together back to Oslo. The ferry arrives at Stockholm harbour around 7 P.M. on 6 July and the participants stay overnight in Stockholm if necessary, and travel together to Oslo on July 6 or 7. The participants will travel home from Oslo by themselves.
Participants from Denmark will travel alone to Copenhagen on 2 July, where they will meet their group leader and travel to Stockholm. The group will stay a night in Stockholm and take the morning ferry to Mariehamn on 3 July. After the Summit, the Danish group will travel together back to Copenhagen. The ferry arrives at Stockholm harbour around 7 P.M. on 6 July and the participants stay overnight in Stockholm if necessary, and travel together to Copenhagen on July 6 or 7. The participants will travel home from Copenhagen by themselves.
Participants from Åland travel to the campsite independently.
How much does it cost and what is covered?
There is a participation fee of 40 euros per participant. However, if you are not able to pay the fee, you can apply for a fee waiver by contacting the organizers if you are selected for the Summit. Participants’ travels between the Summit site in Åland Islands and their hometown in Finland, Sweden, Norway or Denmark the accommodation during the travels and at the campsite and meals during the Summit are covered.
Note! The participation fees for the participants from Sweden, Norway and Denmark are covered by the organizing organizations. The participation fee therefore only applies to Finnish participants.
Is the Summit accessible?
The campsite is mostly accessible for people using mobility aids. There are accessible accommodation rooms, toilets & showers. If needed, you can take a personal assistant with you to the Summit. We will cover the accommodation and the traveling costs for the personal assistant. Fill out the application form. The application period ends on 30th of April at midnight EEST. All applicants will be informed whether their application was successful by 16 May at the latest.
The Summit is organized together with the Federation of Green Youth and Students (Finland), Grön ungdom (Sweden), Grønn Ungdom (Norway), Socialistisk Folkeparts Ungdom (Denmark) and Hållbart initiativ in the Åland Islands. Project has received funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers’ funding programme Norden 0–30.
